What Do You Want Jesus To Do For You?

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

What do you want Jesus to do for you? Are you asking in faith or has the crowd of doubt silenced you? Let me share a story from Mark 10:46-52 to help you answer that question.

The scene is a crowded street in Jericho where a blind man, easily overlooked by most, sat begging. His name was Bartimaeus. One day Jesus was walking through the streets of Jericho, and the man who could not see was very aware of who was there. He began yelling from the back of the crowd “Son of David have mercy on me.” But those who had sight were annoyed with the man who had none and told him to be quiet. Yet the Bible says Bartimaeus shouted all the louder so to be heard above the noise!

The Noise Sounds Like Doubt

Friend, do you feel like just another person in the crowd? Do you flip through social media and see Jesus moving in the lives of others through ministries, churches, and families? Are you watching as a spectator or are you crying out for His attention? Truth is sometimes we can be both. We can start by asking God, but shrink back to avoid disappointment.

Oh, sister, I want to encourage you BE like BARTIMAEUS! Be bold, loud, and shout above the crowd! Because when Bartimaeus did that the scriptures said, “Jesus heard him and stopped.”

Your Voice Sounds Like Faith

Can you imagine the noise level on the streets? Can you image the chaos amongst the people? In the crowded streets of Jerihico, above the noise of the spectators, Jesus hears one man’s voice of faith. He zeros in on Bartimaeus, but Jesus does not go to the man, instead, calls to the blind beggar to come to Him. Don’t you see it friend? The blind beggar is the living picture that it’s possible to walk by faith and not by sight. Jesus asks him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The man does not hesitate, but states the obvious, “I want to see!”

When you cry out to God, you’re not just another voice in the crowd. You’re a voice of faith, and you possess the ability to walk it out even when you cannot see. These are the moments that catch His attention and move the Lord to ask,“Daughter, what do you want me to do for you?”

Ask Boldly and Confidently

Friend, are you hesitating? Or are you bold like Bartimaeus? Sometimes we hesitate to ask because we don’t want to be disappointed. Yet, Ephesians 3:12 says, to come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. And Hebrews 4:16 says, “…come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

If doubt is causing you to shrink back, it’s time to ask for a fresh anointing of boldness and confidence to go before the Lord. I want to challenge you to be ready with an answer because friend your faith has caught His attention. The Lord is asking you, “What do you want me to do for you?”

Loud Faith is Persistent Faith

Jesus told Bartimaeus, “Go your faith has healed you.” Which act of faith was Jesus referring to? Was it the faith to audaciously ask for healing? Maybe it was the faith it took to walk without sight? Or perhaps it was the faith to ask for what he could not see? Or was it the faith it took not to be silent?

I believe Jesus was referring to all of it. Bartimaeus’ consistent, persistent, loud and audacious faith caught the attention of Jesus. Are you walking in faith that is catching God’s attention?

My Final Thoughts

Maybe you see yourself standing in one of those faith stages.

  • Do you sense Him but struggle for the faith to shout out for what you can’t see? Then cry out in blind faith my friend. He’s listening to your voice.
  • Are you fighting the noise of doubt? Then choose to get louder, be persistent, and rise above the noise.
  • Does it feel impossible to walk by faith and not by sight? Then follow the sound of His voice and just start walking.
  • Perhaps you’re standing in His presence afraid of disappointment. Friend, without hesitation, ASK HIM!

If you are stalled in one of these stages, don’t be discouraged. Romans 12:3 says that God has given us each a measure of faith. I don’t believe it’s given all at once. I think it’s released in phases. God’s way of preparing you so that you will give a confident and audacious answer to His question, “Daughter, what do you want me to do for you?”

Your Friend,

Let’s Chat: Are you stalled? Let me know how I can pray for you. I believe for God to activate you to walk in faith!

I was just telling my husband that we need to get bolder and pray more. We have been in a season of bad things happening. It is hurting us financially. I know God hears an honest prayer. Thank you Beth for this writing. It really helped me. And yes I am full of faith in God! Lori
